The EMB170/190 computer-based training (CBT) course consists of Simulation based training using interactive multimedia courseware designed to prepare the pilot for a type rating qualification on either the EMB170 or the EMB190.

The courseware is divided into the following components:

• A series of System Lessons which teach basic knowledge on all systems
• A series of Abnormal Lessons during which trainees are exposed to a selection of the major emergency situations for which they need to be prepared
• A series of Quizzes to check system knowledge

The EMB170/190 self-paced CBT modules not only teach basic system knowledge, but also provide trainees with the opportunity to respond to indications and interact with the various controls as they will do in the real aircraft. CAE has used advanced tools including its Virtual Simulator (VSIM) to create the courseware increasing training effectiveness and ensuring instructional validity. As the course is designed using software based on Level D qualified simulations, the time delays, commands and messages are all as per the actual aircraft. These courses provide the simulation-based self-paced equivalent of traditional Type-training courses.
